This simple question has been addressed by many scholars around the world, producing different theories, ranging from the Four Theories of the Press to Three Models of Media and Politics. Most theories, however, are Western-dominated. Although efforts have been made to de-Westernize journalism theories, these efforts are either normative or empirical. Few efforts have been made to theorize press differences from a normative-empirical perspective. This talk is designed to invite wider academic interests in joint efforts to fill the gap by introducing a 3M research design based on a normative-empirical approach. 徐晓鸽教授简历： Before joining NTU in 2004, Dr. Xu worked as an associate professor in Beijing, a senior research associate in Hong Kong and a lecturer in Singapore. He has published two books, six book chapters, and 17 journal articles.
