ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Li Hongwei is currently the Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor of Global Times English edition, a leading English language daily newspaper that began publishing in April 2009.
From 2009 to 2011, Li worked as a reporter, editor of the Global Times. As a reporter, Li published a series of feature stories on sensitive and controversial topics such as petitioners, Tibetan situation, marginalized groups, and political dissidence in China, etc. He was in charge of the paper’s front page as an editor before he was promoted to be the Deputy Managing Editor.
From 2003 to 2008, Li worked as editor and reporter of Global Times Chinese edition, one of the most influential Chinese newspapers on world news with a daily circulation of 2 million. He covered the Athens Olympics in 2004, the Muslim immigration issue in Europe in 2005, the election of Japan’s Prime Minister in 2006 etc. He was awarded The L.Z. Yuan Fellowship in Media and International Affairs by the Asian Foundation in 2007.
From 2001 to 2002, Li worked as a junior reporter at China Daily’s website.
Li was born in 1978. He graduated from the International Communication Institute of Beijing Foreign Studies University in 2001.
