“Reporting on China: A Glimpse of China through Different Lenses”
Sue Feng, Former English Reporter
ABOUT THE TALK:
After serving as an English-language reporter for more than 10 years, Sue has witnessed not only a decade of rapid growth of Chinese economy, but dramatic differences between Chinese media and foreign media when reporting on China. In this lecture, Sue will share some of the highlights, both exciting and struggling moments, from her very unique working experiences in drastically different kinds of media: 3+ years with today’s CCTV NEWS, 5+ years with Wall Street Journal China Bureau, and 2 years with Global Times. It’s a retrospect on how China was depicted, featured in the global sphere over the past decade through many individual stories, both on CCTV, WSJ and Global Times.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Sue Feng, is currently PR Manager with Nielsen China, but before taking on this new job, Sue used to be a senior English-language reporter and editor for more than 10 years. In her journalistic pursuit from CCTV NEWS, to the world-wide well-known the Wall Street Journal and then back to China’s own English media—Global Times from 2001 to 2013, Sue was able to observe rapid CHANGES of China from very different angles and topics, and to record the big news happening in her home soil, including the leadership change, the 2008 Olympics, the Wenchuan Earthquake, the anti-corruption campaigns, the financial crisis, and etc. It’s a journey of self-exploration, and a rare experience to compare the subtle but important differences between Chinese and foreign media. Journalism is all about professionalism.
