Call for Paper Medicine, Humanity, and Media: “Healthy China" and Health Communication International Conference (MHM 2020) (Nov 7-8, 2020, Peking University) Submission Deadline: 15 September 2020 (Beijing Time) MHM is an international conference series that aims to be a highly selective and premier international forum on health communication. Over the past three years, MHM has become a leading venue for health communication scholarship in China attracting international and domestic scholars. Peking University’s School of Journalism and Communication will host the 3rd International Conference on Medicine, Humanity, and Media (MHM 2020): "Healthy China" and Health Communication on November 7 and 8, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference will be held virtually. The pandemic has forever changed the course of human civilization and puts unprecedented highlight on health communication as an essential part of the global response to this crisis. How do we put people first, integrate health in all policy making, and fully tap into the power of communication under the pandemic? These are important questions for health communication research and a rally call for the entire academic community. The third conference in the MHM series aims to bridge disciplinary boundaries and promote exchange. We welcome participation from Chinese and international scholars to explore the core issues, theoretical concerns, and methodological challenges in the "Healthy China" and Health Communication research agenda in the new era. We welcome submissions from masters and doctoral degree candidates and will provide young scholars of accepted papers with virtual mentoring opportunities with established scholars in the field. I. Topics We welcome submissions on the following topics from diverse perspectives. 1. Public health crisis communication and risk communication 2. Health education and promotion using new media 3. Doctor-patient communication and interventions in health care settings 4. Mass media and health communication 5. Emerging technology and health communication 6. Aging and health communication 7. Tobacco control initiative in China and health communication 8. Health Communication for Food Safety and Nutrition 9. Other related topics II. Paper Submission 1. This conference works with CNKI.net and accepts abstracts and full papers in both Chinese and English. For initial submission, please send an abstract (300 English words, including title and key words, in APA style) and a personal bio (60 English words, with photo) to www.mhm2020.cbpt.cnki.net by September 15 (Beijing Time). We will announce accepted abstracts and send invitations to authors to participate in the conference by September 30 (Beijing Time). 2. Accepted abstracts are expected to be developed into full-length papers (unpublished, 3000 to 4,500 English words, including title, abstract, key words, body text, and end- or foot-notes) and submitted to www.mhm2020.cbpt.cnki.net (the website to be launched on September 1) by October 15 (Beijing Time). Funding sources should be clearly acknowledged, if applicable. Team-authored papers should have corresponding author information. With author's authorization, accepted papers will be included in the Chinese Key Conference Full-length Paper Database of CNKI.net, and receive a certificate (see Attachment 1). Top papers will be recommended to leading local and international journals for publication. 3. Participation to MHM 2020 is free.
