Anne Pauwels教授,2008年9月起担任伯明翰大学法学与文学艺术学院院长,之前曾在澳大利亚澳西大学(University of Western Australia)、卧龙岗大学(University of Wollongong)和新英格兰大学(The University of New England)等大学担任系主任。她曾在比利时、奥地利和澳大利亚求学,获澳大利亚莫纳什大学(Monash University,在最新的全球前100所综合大学排名位于第33名)语言学博士学位。主要研究语言政策、语言学、移民和多语制(language policy, linguistics, migration and multilingualism)等。出版著作20多部,发表论文100多篇。
Professor Anne Pauwels is the inaugural Head of the College of Arts and Law at the University of Birmingham UK. She took up her position in September 2008. The College is made up of six Schools covering almost all major disciplines in the Humanities and many disciplines in the Social Sciences as well as Law. She is a member of the university senior executive team.
Before joining the University of Birmingham she was Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia. At this university she also carried executive responsibility for all Cultural Relations and Community Outreach and for Academic Relations with European Universities. Professor Pauwels has held executive positions as Dean and Head of School at other universities in Australia including the University of Wollongong and the University of New England.
Professor Pauwels has been educated in Belgium, Austria and Australia, She holds a PhD in Linguistics from Monash University, Australia and in 1995 she was an elected Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. Professor Pauwels continues to be an active researcher in the areas of language policy, linguistics, migration and multilingualism. She has held several competitive grants in sociolinguistics and is in the process of completing a large national project investigating innovative approaches to the teaching and learning of foreign languages in higher education. She is the author of more than twenty books and has published over 100 articles and papers in her fields of expertise.
Professor Pauwels has extensive experience in all aspects of internationalisation in the context of higher education. She has been instrumental in developing large scale interdisciplinary research projects and networks within the Humanities and Social Sciences in Australia. She has also initiated and implemented several cross-continental degree programs in Communication and Cultural Studies and Asian/European Studies. She has undertaken several leadership programs including at the Harvard Business School and is a regular invited conference speaker in the field of cultural diversity, language and leadership. Professor Pauwels is actively engaged in enhancing the relationship between the university and the wider community through a range of cultural outreach programs.
