David Frank is an academic dean and professor of rhetoric in the Robert D. Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon. He is also a Carnegie Council fellow in Global Ethics. The author and coauthor of six books and 30 journal articles, Professor Frank studies the use of argumentative reason (rhetoric) in value conflicts. A recognized authority on rhetoric and rhetorical theory, his scholarship on comparative rhetoric, Chaïm Perelman and his new rhetoric project, Barack Obama, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has received acclaim. His most recent book Frames of Evil: The Holocaust as Horror in American Film, (With Kay Picard) was one of the editor’s pick in the June 2007 issue of Choice: Current Reviews of Academic Libraries. He and his colleague Robert Rowland were awarded the Kohrs-Campbell Prize in Rhetorical Criticism for their book Shared Land / Conflicting Identity: Trajectories of Israeli and Palestinian Symbol Use in 2002.
David Frank and his wife, Marjorie Enseki, have two sons Justin (9) and Michael (12) who are active in sports and music. He enjoys racquetball and travel.
