He will also discuss the English media in China and give his views on how news reporting designed for domestic consumption can be adapted to suit a foreign/overseas audience.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Michael Harrold, from the UK,is a Consultant with the Features Department of CCTV-News, China Central Television’s English-language channel, where he is responsible for various aspects of the department’s output, including script editing and programme review, as well as for the recruitment and management of international staff.
In nearly 20 years at CCTV he has played a part in its English-language coverage of many major events in China, including the handover of Hong Kong in 1997 and of Macao in 1999, the Beijing Olympics in 2008, the 60th anniversary of the PRC in 2009, and the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.
Before coming to China in 1994, he worked for seven years in the DPRK, copy-editing English translations of the speeches of the country’s leaders, Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.
