On the morning of April 21, 2026, a signing ceremony for the collaboration between the School of Journalism and Communication at Peking University and the Department of Communications and New Media at the National University of Singapore was successfully held in the auditorium of the Meng Minwei Building.
Attendees from the National University of Singapore included Professor Natalie Pang Lee San, Head of the Department of Communications and New Media; Associate Professor Jiang Shaohai; and Assistant Manager Michael Jonathan Basaldella. From Peking University, participants included Professor Gang Chen, Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication; Associate Dean Wang Weijia; Deputy Party Secretary Lu Liang; Professor Xu Jing; Assistant Professor Mengxue Ou; Foreign Affairs Secretary Tao Yijing; as well as faculty and student representatives. The ceremony was chaired by Associate Dean Wang Weijia.
In his remarks, Dean Gang Chen warmly welcomed Professor Pang and her delegation. He noted that this collaboration marks an important opportunity to deepen exchanges between the two institutions, and expressed hope that both sides would engage in substantive cooperation in areas such as academic research and talent development, achieving complementary strengths and mutual growth.
Professor Natalie Pang stated that the Department of Communications and New Media at NUS attaches great importance to this collaboration with Peking University. She expressed her expectation that both sides would expand channels for exchange, deepen practical cooperation, and promote mutual learning.
Witnessed by faculty and students present, Dean Gang Chen and Professor Natalie Pang signed a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of their respective institutions. According to the agreement, the two sides will first strengthen collaboration in areas such as faculty exchanges and jointly organized academic activities, and will further accelerate the implementation of student exchange programs.

After the signing ceremony, Associate Professor Jiang Shaohai provided a comprehensive introduction to the faculty, research strengths, and student exchange programs of the Department of Communications and New Media at the National University of Singapore. The National University of Singapore is a globally renowned institution, with its Communication and Media Studies discipline ranked 10th worldwide in the 2026 QS rankings. Peking University’s Communication and Media Studies is the only discipline from a mainland Chinese university to be ranked among the global top 50 this year. This collaboration will further enhance the internationalization of the School of Journalism and Communication at Peking University and support its steady progress toward becoming a world-leading discipline.
