Registration Open | 2026 International Summer School on “Communication, Technology, and Culture”– Join Us at Peking University!

The School of Journalism and Communication at Peking University is pleased to launch the International Summer School on “Communication, Technology, and Culture.” This 11-day program integrates academic courses, visits to leading industry companies, and immersive cultural experiences. It aims to bring students to the forefront of the dynamic intersections of communication, technology, and culture in China. The program will be held in Beijing, a city with a rich historical and cultural heritage and one of the world’s most vibrant and fastest-growing hubs for digital technology and creative industries.

As the birthplace of journalism education in China, Peking University offers a unique perspective for exploring the intersections of technology and society. Participants will have the opportunity to attend lectures by distinguished professors, visit leading technology companies, and experience firsthand the rich cultural heritage of China’s capital.

Program Content

Featured Course Modules:

Cutting-Edge Application of "AI + Media"
This module focuses on the cutting-edge applications of artificial intelligence in advertising, media, and human-computer interaction, helping students understand how AI is reshaping content production, user experience, communication strategies, and creative expression. Through case studies, interactive discussions, and introductions to emerging topics, students will gain close insight into the development trends of intelligent communication and explore new possibilities for the future of media and creative industries.


Frontiers of Digital Governance
Starting from real-world issues in the digital society, this module engages with topics such as digital privacy, platform governance, data security, and order in cyberspace. Students will examine from an international perspective how digital technologies influence social interaction, public life, and governance models, while understanding the ethical boundaries, institutional challenges, and social responsibilities behind technological innovation.


Media Development and Social Transformation
Drawing on the history of communication technologies and the social transformation of media in China, this module guides students to understand contemporary China's media development and social transition from a historical perspective. By comparing the past and present, students will explore how communication technologies have transformed social interaction, cultural practices, and public life, forming a comprehensive understanding of China's digital cultural development.


Visual Culture and Creative Industries
Covering topics such as international news reporting, visual culture, and the film industry, this module brings students into the vibrant world of journalism, visual media, and creative culture. Through thematic lectures, case studies, and interactive discussions, students will explore the relationships between cross-cultural communication, visual expression, and creative industries, broadening their imagination and understanding of contemporary media culture.


Cultural Immersion and Field Engagement
Through visits to technology companies, media institutions, creative spaces, and cultural landmarks, this module takes students beyond the classroom to immerse themselves in Beijing's digital technology ecosystem, creative cultural atmosphere, and historical heritage. The program also provides opportunities for students from different countries and regions to interact, fostering cross-cultural understanding and international friendships through shared learning and urban exploration.


Final Presentation and Closing Session
At the end of the program, an achievement presentation and closing session will be held. Students will share their reflections and insights based on their coursework, visit experiences, and cultural observations. This module not only serves as a showcase of the program's learning outcomes but also provides a platform for students to demonstrate their presentation skills, academic communication abilities, and cross-cultural competencies.


Provisional List of Invited Speakers and Faculty

This program has invited a distinguished group of renowned scholars and industry experts from the fields of media, technology, and creative industries. These mentors possess not only deep academic expertise but also extensive practical experience at the forefront of their industries. The mentor team will provide students with interdisciplinary, cross-platform guidance, helping them understand theories, master methods, and connect with industry practices.

Eligibility Requirements

All applicants must meet the following criteria:

· Be between 18 and 40 years of age and in good health
· Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university outside mainland China
· Have a strong academic record


Note: This program is taught in English. No prior knowledge of Chinese is required.

· Official enrollment certificate issued by your home institution

· Personal resume/CV

· Copy of the photo page of your passport

· International students with a valid Chinese entry visa may submit a copy of the visa page. Students from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan with a valid Home Return Permit or Taiwan Compatriot Permit may submit a copy of the respective permit.

Program Costs

1. Tuition Fees

Tuition Fee: RMB 13,500 

The tuition fee covers all academic lectures, course materials, transportation for visits, and cultural activities organized by the program.


2. Accommodation

Accommodation may be arranged independently according to participants’ own needs. Participants may also contact the organizers for assistance in booking university accommodation. As a reference, the estimated rate for a twin room is approximately RMB 700 per room per night, shared by two participants. This fee is an estimate and may vary depending on market conditions. Participants shall pay the accommodation fee directly to the accommodation provider.


3. Additional Expenses

The following expenses shall be borne by the student:

· Round-trip transportation

· Visa application fees

· Daily meals and personal expenses

· Medical and accident insurance within China (or comprehensive travel medical insurance for international visitors to China), which must cover the entire duration of the program. Registrations will not be processed for students who have not purchased the required insurance.
