Emma Lupano is Researcher of Chinese Language and Culture at the Department of Language Mediation and Intercultural Communication at the University of Milan. She has worked at Peking University (2013-2014) and at the China Media Project of the University of Hong Kong (2008). Her research interests lie in China’s contemporary culture and society, genres in Chinese journalism and professional practice in Chinese media, and the relation between the institutional and the media discourses in China. As a professional journalist before, she worked for press, radio and online media both in Italian and English for over 15 years. She has been a freelance correspondent from China, a reporter at the Olympic Games in Beijing with the Olympic News Service, and the first Italian journalist to work at the People’s Daily Online in Beijing, the mouthpiece of China’s Communist Party. She is the author of Zhongguo Jizhe. Giornalisti cinesi: linguaggio e identità professionale (2016) and Ho servito il popolo cinese, Media e potere nella Cina di oggi (2012), and a blogger for the Italian news agency AGI.
